Grape Seed Extract
MELCHERS GRAPE SEED EXTRACT is derived from the seeds of white grapes (vitis viniferia), which are grown in France and Italy. Our Grape Seed Extract is a 100:1 extract containing 95% proanthocyanidins.
Proanthocyanidins:
The active constituents (also found in Pine Bark extract, but in smaller percentages) are called proanthocyanidins, which are a group of bioflavonoids. Some of Grape Seed Extract proanthocyanidins are in the form of gallic esters which have been found to be some of the most active antioxidants currently known and which are unique to Grape Seed Extract. The majority of studies done on Proanthocyanidins have been done using Grape Seed Extract.
In France, Grape Seed Extract outsells pine bark derived proanthocyanidins by 400 times. Proanthocyanidins provide excellent nutritional protection for the vascular (blood vessel) system through 2 mechanisms:
* Free Radical Scavenger: Grape Seed Extract provides antioxidant protection against both water-and fat-soluble free radicals.
* Enzyme inhibitor: Grape Seed Extract helps inhibit an enzyme known to trigger the formation of free radical (xanthine oxidase). Zit also helps inhibit enzymes that break down collegen (these enzymes are called collagenase and elastase).
The Benefit of Grape Seed Extract:
This double protection from proanthocyanidins help benefit and support the following specific structures and functions within the body:
Circulation including capillary integrity, peripheral circulation and the entire vascular system.
Antioxidant protection against both water- and fat-soluble free radicals; also protects vitamin C from oxidation. In addition, Grape Seed Extract works as an antioxidant to help protect brain cells and the brain’s blood vessels, because its proanthocyanidins can cross the blood-brain barrier.
Collagen and elastin stability
Visual function (by protecting capillary integrity in the eyes)
Controlled inflammatory response (any one with an injury can benefit from Grape Seed Extract because it inhibits enzymes which are known to break down collagen when the inflammatory response is active.
ANTIOXIDANT: A million to one fighting the free radical battle Page 1/2
Nutrition science can tell you everything you need to know about free radical damage on the cellular level. But if you really want to understand free radicals, just think about some of the physical signs:
Gray hair
Increasing number of wrinkles
Age spots
These are all signs of free radical damage. And that’s just on the out side.
Inside of you, free radical ricochet between cells, damaging cellular structures, even affecting DNA and your genetic make-up. They come from your environment, from pollution and toxins in your food, but you even produce them yourself…simply by breathing.
ANTIOXIDANT: The best help you can get
Antioxidant neutralize free radicals. On the molecular level, an antioxidant provides a positively-charged pairing for the free radical’s negative charge. By neutralizing free radicals, antioxidants protect cells from damage.
Antioxidant make sense for good health. Plant species all over the world protect themselves by producing antioxidants. Human beings also produce a powerful antioxidant called glutathione. And we eat plant antioxidant for added protection. Free radicals come in many forms…so should your antioxidants. Relying on just one antioxidant will not rid your system of excess free radicals and protect your health.
Grape Seed Extract contains one of the most powerful antioxidants known
Pollution, UV radiation, diet and other lifestyle factors can all put you at a higher risk for free radical damage. To combat this damage, Grape Seed Extract can help provide your body with one of the most powerful antioxidants known.
One study shows that Grape Seed Extract is up to 50 times more powerful than vitamin E and up to 30 times more powerful than vitamin C when it come to fighting superoxide anion, a highly dangerous, free radical produced by natural processes in the body.
Vitamins C, E and Beta-Carotene are necessary antioxidants, but they can’t neutralize all types of free radicals. Rather, they are part of a comprehensive antioxidant defense that should include Grape Seed Extract.
